Hermano Cup Championship raises funds for Compeer Rochester

The 3rd Annual Hermano Cup Championship Golf Tournament, which was held August 15-17 in Tampa, Florida, has once again honored the memory of Rochester native Jason Drago. An extraordinary showing of friendship, generosity, and community spirit, this year’s event achieved record participation and fundraising. In the end, $15,469.69 is being donated to Compeer Rochester in Jason’s name.

The Hermano Cup, founded in 2023 by Jason’s brother, Jonathan P. Drago, was created as a way to gather Jason’s closest family and friends to celebrate his life and carry forward his legacy of service. Jason was a devoted supporter of Compeer Rochester, a nonprofit that connects trained volunteers with children, adults, and veterans facing mental health challenges through the healing power of friendship.

“Jason’s life was defined by selfless acts and a genuine commitment to others. His work with Compeer Rochester left a lasting impression on me, and selecting Compeer as the benefactor for these efforts seemed only fitting. Surpassing our fundraising goal each year since the inaugural event is a testament to the power of collective generosity and teamwork,” said Jonathan Drago, Founder of Hermano Cup Events.

Since its start, the Hermano Cup has donated nearly $33,000 to Compeer Rochester, this year more than doubling its inaugural year’s numbers.

This year’s event sold out completely. It reached its maximum capacity of 48 players and drew sponsors from across the country.

Jonathan credits the success of the Hermano Cup Championships to the dedicated sponsors, volunteers, and participants who come together each year to honor his brother’s legacy while providing vital resources toward Compeer’s lifesaving programs.

Sara Passamonte, CEO of Compeer Rochester, adds: “Compeer Rochester is deeply grateful to Jonathan and all of Jason’s friends and family for honoring him in a way that carries his legacy forward. The funds raised through the Hermano Cup will directly support individuals who are struggling with mental wellness, giving them the gift of friendship and mentorship that can truly change their lives.”
Plans for the 4th Annual Hermano Cup are already underway, with conversations about potentially adding a second tournament in Rochester for those who cannot travel. No matter the location, the event will continue its mission: to unite family, friends, and community in celebration of Jason Drago’s life, while supporting Compeer Rochester’s essential work.
