BROCKPORT

•Coopenberg, Edward G., Suddenly on April 9, 2013 at age 72. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Bonnie; his daughter Amy Mastay; grandsons Matthew and Michael Mastay; brothers Robert (Betty) Coopenberg, Raymond (Pat) Coopenberg; brothers-in-law, Jim (Loleta) Cliff, Gerry (Lillian) Cliff; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ed was retired from the Brockport D.P.W.

Funeral Services were held April 13 at the Fowler Funeral Home Inc., Brockport. Contributions can be made to the Brockport United Methodist Church in his memory.

 

•Giancursio, Carolyn, April 11, 2013, age 88 years. She is survived by her children, Vicki (Dan) Blackburn of Brockport, Carol O’Donald of South Carolina, Donna Dunhill of Colorado and Barbara (Ron) Snios of Pittsford; grandchildren, Scott and William DeLorme, Donnie and Cassie O’Donald, Abbey (Kyle) Boyst, Shelby Blackburn and Brad Snios; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Lorraine (Chet) Emmerich.

Service and interment private. Contributions can be made to Lakeside Beikirch Care Center, 170 West Avenue, Brockport 14420 in her memory.

 

•Yantz, Lucile E. (Mooney), On April 15, 2013 at age 89. Predeceased by her husband, Bernard, daughter Christine Baker, three sisters and son-in-law, Jessie Rios. She is survived by her children Barbara Yantz, William (Gloria) Yantz, Douglas (Deborah), Agnes (Charles) Switzer, Ellen Rios, Joanne Jackson, Robin (Michael) Hicks, Donna (Greg) Weckesser; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; seven step-grandchildren; sister Phyllis Corl; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held April 17 at the Fowler Funeral Home, Inc., Brockport. Interment, Lakeview Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Hildebrandt Hospice or the Sweden Senior Center in her memory.

•Brongo, Helen M. “Mickey” (Miraglia), April 11, 2013. Predeceased by her husband, Joseph C. Brongo; brothers, Joseph and John Miraglia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; daughter-in-law, Donna Brongo. Survived by her sons, Richard Brongo, Edward (Deborah) Brongo; grandchildren, Alicia (James) Francesca, Dr. Joseph Brongo, Daniel Brongo, Andrew Brongo, Stephen Brongo; great-grandchildren, James and Emily Francesca, RJ, Jordan and Gabriella Brongo; sister, Mary Valenza; sister-in-law, Gemma Brongo; nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated April 16 at St Pius Tenth Church, Chili. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations can be made to School of the Holy Childhood, 100 Groton Parkway, Rochester, NY 14623 in her memory.

 

•Mendolera, Sandy, April 11, 2013, at age 87. Predeceased by his wife, Jean Mendolera; brothers, Samuel and Dominic Mendolera; sisters, Lena Salemi, Rose Baier, Jean Schell, Mary Scherzi, Katie Capierseho and May Palmer. He is survived by his children, Sandra Denome, Ron (Mary) Mendolera, Rick (Donna) Mendolera; grandchildren, Ron (Katrina) Mendolera, Michelle (Phil) Miley, Ricky, Michael, Matt, Megan and Kristen Mendolera; great grandchildren, Bennett, Bryson and Gavin; sister, Loretta DiNitto; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim Schell, Bunny Moss, Maureen Moss, Gerry and Joyce Moss, Ray Prutz; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Mendolera was former president of Westside Little League and a Navy Veteran of WWII.

His Funeral Mass was said April 15 at St. Pius X Church, Chili. Interment, private.

 

•Pavone, Martin J. “Marty”, April 12, 2013, at the age of 51. Marty is predeceased by his father, Angelo Pavone. Marty is survived by his wife, Emily (Berkowitz) Pavone; sons, Alex and Luke Pavone; mother, Valerie Pavone; sister, Peg (Jim) Kennedy; brothers, Tom (Angela) Pavone, Paul (Paula) Pavone and John Pavone; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Marty was a dedicated school teacher who taught for many years in the Spencerport School District. He enjoyed sports and spending time in the outdoors.

•Maher, Arlene E., April 16, 2013 peacefully at age 84. Predeceased by her husband, William and brother, Donald Heyer. Survived by her children, Daniel (Colleen Currie), Mary Cody, Thomas (Ann), Laurie (Jim) Jackson, Mark ‘the favorite” (Lynn) and Susan (Frank) Martin; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Rita (Dick) Wallenhorst and Jean (Dave) Gramlich; sister-in-law, Joan Maher; many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated April 21 at St. Vincent DePaul Church, Churchville. Interment, St. Vincent DePaul Cemetery. Donations can be made to the School of the Holy Childhood or Alzheimer’s Association in her memory.

 

HAMLIN

•Leverenz, Thomas W. (“Lefty,” “T.L.”), on April 15, 2013 at age 75. He is survived by his wife Peggy; son Jeffrey of Florida; daughters Kim Trelly, Florida, Donna (Stephen) Leonardo and Debra (Richard) Curtis; grandchildren Lily Ann and Rose Lynn Trelly, Florida, Abbey and Cate Muir and Stephen Leonardo; sisters Dian (Jim) Bannister, Mary (Allan) Smith; brother Tim (Laurie) Leverenz. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Winnie Leverenz. He was a retiree of E.I. DuPont Company and a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church.

A Memorial Service was held April 19 at St. John Lutheran Church. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery, Hamlin. Donations can be made to St. John Lutheran Church Improvement Fund in his memory.

 

•Terry, Alma L., April 9, 2013. Survived by nieces, Willa (Verchie) Purrier, Claudia Terry; grandnieces, Monique Purrier Simpson, Nina Lawrence, Bernice (Larry) Douglas, Cynthia Burgess; grandnephew, Chezere Purrier and special friends, Ruth Mason and Debra Caleb.

Services were held April 16 at Aenon Baptist Church, Rochester.

 

HILTON

•Hobson, Mary Jane, R.N. “Tillie,” On April 14, 2013. She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Bill; her children, Bill (Stacy) Hobson, Jack Hobson, Beth (Keith) Nichol and Judy (Scott) Gallipeau; grandchildren, Shaynna (Lincoln Iamon) Hobson, Michele (Ryan) Rast, Jennifer (Russ) Conjerti, Melanie (Lee) Kelsey, Heather (Matt Short) Nichol, Karen (Matthew Cosgrove) Nichol, Lindsay (Brett Moreland) Gallipeau and Nicholas Gallipeau; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Jacob, Anna, Amanda and Emma; sisters-in-law, Ann Schwalm and Grace (Charlie) Adelman; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was a 1948 graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing, a member of the Alumni Association, and retired from St. Mary’s Hospital Labor and Delivery Department.

Her Mass of Christian Burial was said April 18 at St. Leo the Great Church, Hilton. Interment, Parma Union Cemetery. Contributions can be made to Mt. Carmel House Hospice, 4 Planet Street, Rochester, NY 14606 in her memory.

 

•Knitis, Jean, February 26, 2013 at age 99. Predeceased by her husband, Joseph Knitis. Survived by her sons, Jerald (Florence) Knitis, James (Elizabeth) Knitis of Tennessee; grandchildren, Kimberly (Norbert) Gunkel, Anne Marie (Christopher) Harrell, James Joseph (Erin) Knitis, Eric (Barbara) Knitis; great-grandchildren, Bradley and Alexander Gunkel, Nicole Knitis, Jordan Harrell; several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Her Memorial Mass was celebrated April 19 at St. Mark’s Church. Contributions can be made to Edna Tina Wilson Living Center in her memory.

 

•Price, Randolph “Randy,” April 14, 2013 at age 84. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Nancy; his children, Cathy and David Turner; special godson, Peter Montante; grandchildren, Nicholas, Austin, Blake, Britney and Bayli; brother, Ronald Price. Randy was Past President of the International Association of Printi House Craftsmen.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated April 18 at Spiritus Christi Church, Rochester. Private Interment. Contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in his memory.

 

•Wake, Phillip D., On April 16, 2013. Survived by his wife, Joan; children, Colleen Guess, Gregory and Kyle Daniels, grandchildren, Nicole and Sarah Guess and Tyler and Brennan Daniels; his sisters, Sandra (Bill) Rabjohns, Maxine (Lee) Weed and Delores Wake; also his aunt, Ella Burton. Phil was a retiree of Rochester Products.

KENDALL

•Ahrns, Stephen Jerome, Died April 11, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ann Marie; daughters, Rebecca (Daryl) Walker and Heather (Jeffrey) Pelham; his grandchildren, Harrison, Alexander and Rowan Pelham; siblings, Nikki (Mark) Cottle and Jeffrey (Jacque) Ahrns; many nieces and nephews.

His Memorial Service was held April 20 at Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home, Greece. Interment held privately. Donations can be made to Unity Health Foundation (UnityHealth.org) in his memory.

 

•Skellen, William E. “Will,” age 84, died April 16, 2013 at Rochester General Hospital. He was born in Kendall Mills, the son of Ernest and Ada Skellen and has been a lifetime resident of the area. He was employed at Eastman Kodak for over 30 years before retiring and also owned and operated his own farm, raising beef cattle. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret (Butler); five children, Mary (Ray) Lord of Florida, Marcia Dunn of Lockport, Bill (Libby) Skellen of Holley, Tina Skellen of Kent, Betty (Eric) Weatherbee of Clarendon; grandchildren, Amber Dunn of Lockport, Tracy and Laura Lord of Florida, Megan and Travis Weatherbee of Clarendon; two step grandchildren, Mike and Jen: three step great-grandchildren, Cameron, Mackenzie and Harrison; sister, Velma Roth of Albion.

•Murphy, Helen (Clark), age 96, died April 13, 2013. Helen and her late husband Thomas, owned and operated Murphy’s Fruit Farm in Morton for several years. She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Catherine (Ferencik) Clark; her husband, Thomas Murphy; sisters, Margaret Shelton, Jane Popoli. Helen is survived by her sons, Jay (Betty) Murphy of Hilton, Craig Murphy of Morton; grandson, Patrick Murphy of Rochester; brother, Arthur (Eleanor) Clark of Hilton; several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 20 at St. Mark’s Church, Kendall. Private interment, Lakeside Cemetery. Contributions can be made to St. Mark’s Church, 16789 Kenmor Road, Kendall, NY 14476 in her memory.

 

NORTH CHILI

•Scribner, Helen Baker, April 15, 2013 at age 101. She married William F. Scribner on October 4, 1943 during World War II. He passed away in 1979. She is survived by her three sons, twin sons, David (Mary Kay) Scribner of North Chili and Dean (Holly) Scribner of Arlington, Virginia and Donald (Grace) Scribner of Tampa, Florida; eight grandchildren, Heather Doche of Fairport, Hillary Finder of Ogden, Utah, Brandon Scribner of Fairport, Justin Scribner of New York City, Garen Scribner of San Francisco, California, Jeffrey Scribner of Atlanta, Georgia, Brian Scribner of Orlando, Florida and Gloria Scribner of Tampa, Florida; two great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held April 21 at the First United Methodist Church of Batavia. Interment, Hunt Hollow Cemetery, Hunt. Contributions can be made to the memorial fund at the First United Methodist Church of Batavia, 8221 Lewiston Road, Batavia 14020 in her memory.

 

SPENCERPORT

•Chajka, Beverly “Jean,” April 16, 2013. Survived by her husband, Raymond; children, Bruce (Carol) Chyka, Joanne (Kevin) Lee; grandchildren, Scott (Debbie) Lee, Philip (Christy) Chyka, Michael Chyka; six great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law and friends.

•Slobbe, Jeffrey Charles, Suddenly, April 9, 2013 at age 53. He is predeceased by his mother, Barbara. He is survived by his father, James G. Slobbe; his loving wife of 26 years, Mary Ann Towner Slobbe; two daughters, Elizabeth Slobbe Vargas and Becca (Brandon) Long; his grandchildren, Breeonna, Omillio and Amarionna Vargas and Brandon Long Jr.; his sister, Debbie Slobbe; and brothers, James Jr. and Gary (Robin) Slobbe; several special nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held April 15 at New Comer Funeral Home, Greece. Private interment. Donations can be made to Mary and Jeff’s grandchildren in his memory.
