Gerald E. Hochreiter
•Hochreiter, Gerald E., Brockport: Passed away unexpectedly at home with his wife by his side on March 5th, 2015. Born in Buffalo, NY, son of Margaret MacVicar.
Gerald received degrees from Erie Community College, Buffalo State, University of Albany and Syracuse University.
He had an illustrious thirty-three year career in public education, working exclusively in the Vocational field in BOCES statewide. He retired in 2002 as Director of Career and Technical Education for the Monroe 2 – Orleans BOCES. In addition, Gerald served as an adjunct professor, student teacher advisor, consultant and writer.
Gerald was passionate about providing vocational opportunities to make high school relevant for students. He most loved being surrounded by family and friends, relaxing at the family cottage in Canada, and particularly enjoyed the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Joanne, daughter JoEllyn H. Mangano, Clarence, NY; sons, Gerald E. Hochreiter, Williamsville, NY, and Joseph E. Hochreiter, Cortlandt Manor, NY daughter-in-law, Kerry Hochreiter; and grandchildren Anthony, Olivia and Michael Mangano; mother, Margaret MacVicar, sister, Marie Hochreiter, both of Kenmore, NY and many extended family. All will miss his humor, laughter, and desire to help others.
To honor Gerald, a scholarship fund for high school students in a vocational program pursuing collegiate studies has been established. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to the Gerald E. Hochreiter Educational Fund, First Niagara Bank, 4707 Lake Road, Brockport, NY 14420. A Mass in celebration of Gerald’s life will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church, 1085 Englewood Ave., Kenmore, NY 14223.
