Anne Hammond Johantgen
•Johantgen, Anne Hammond (Sweeney), Brockport: Died August 8, 2015, in Brockport, at age 96. Anne was born in Rochester, one of four daughters of Helen and Michael E. Sweeney. She graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart and Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart. Anne went on to Nursing School at St. Mary’s Hospital Rochester and married Dr. Henry F. Johantgen in 1944. Together they raised six children first in Greece and then in Brockport. Always in command of her large and boisterous household, Anne was a school nurse in the Brockport school system. She remained active, swimming almost daily into her eighties. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, golf and watching NCIS. Anne is predeceased by her husband, Henry, and her three sisters, Helen Sweeney rscj, Betty Sweeney rscj, and Jean Sweeney. She was a devoted mother to six children: Henry M. Johantgen and wife, Doris (Virginia Beach, VA); Amy LaPietra and husband, Franco (Brockton, MA); Beth Verde and husband, Giulio (Kent, NY); Meg Johantgen (Annapolis, MD); Peter Johantgen and wife, Clara (Garrison, NY); Michael Johantgen (Greece, NY). Anne was grandmother to Analisa LaPietra, Christopher LaPietra and Anna Christina Johantgen.
Visitation will be 4-7 PM Monday, August 10th at Fowler Funeral Home, 340 West Ave., Brockport. Funeral Mass will be at Nativity BVM Brockport on Tuesday, August 11th at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anne’s name to Lakeside Beikirch Care Center Recreation Department, Brockport.
