Helen R. Maier (1941 – 2020)
On May 15, 2020, the community lost one of its finest social harmony contributors, Helen Maier of Brockport, after a difficult struggle with a major illness. Husband John, son William, daughter-in-law Tracy, beloved grandchildren Tyler and Alexis, and her many Pittsburgh relatives mourn her loss, but know she is now in a better place.
She will be cremated and her ashes held by the family. A Celebration of Helen’s life will be held at a later date.
Helen is particularly well known in the community for her beautiful soprano voice in several events at the College at Brockport, where she previously earned a B.A. degree. Before attending the College at Brockport, Helen had studied at Clarion State College, Robert Morris College, and Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. She enjoyed singing in the choir at the First Presbyterian Church and often helped with the children services. Helen was also a dedicated team member for many years working with The Sea Grant Advisory Service while it was housed at the College. Helen was active in the bridge club, garden club, and Bible study group. She cherished her gardens at home.
While all of these were significant to her, nothing was as important as her family. She remains quite the matriarch! We will miss her forever!
“If there is beauty in every inch of someone’s soul, it is she.
