Alice K. Smith
North Chili – Alice joyfully entered heaven to be with her Lord on Monday, January 18, 2021, age 86.
In 1934, Alice was born in the hills of Pennsylvania to Henry and Mary (Fero) King. She attended Houghton College in NY and earned her Master’s in Library Science from the University of Michigan. In June of 1957 she married Daniel Smith and together they had four children (in four years!) She worked diligently in her profession as a teacher, librarian and media specialist for over 40 years—the last half at Brighton High School.
Alice had a passion for traveling and people. After retirement, she was able to fulfill her desire to travel the world. England, Greece, Norway, France, Italy, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand were a few of the places she happily explored. She was known for her kind and compassionate spirit and encouraging words. As a member of Pearce Memorial Church in North Chili, Alice loved to volunteer. She planned weddings, sang in the choir, and helped to organize women’s retreats.
Alice was predeceased by her sister, Phyllis Gregg, and survived by her husband, Daniel; much-loved children, Gregory (Mary) Smith, Eric Smith, Bethel (Dan) Romero, and Heidi (Andy) Prentice; precious grandchildren, Anna, Lilly, Julia, Leah, and Grayson Smith, Aimee (Jesse) Romero-Palmer, Daniel (Danielle) Romero, Joshua (Lauren) Romero, Jeremiah (Mary) Prentice, Hannah (Justin) Bowersox, Luke (Ashley) Prentice, and Naomi Prentice; and delightful great-grandchildren, Ruby, Lola, Manny, Henry, Junia, and Eve.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many wonderful caregivers and Lifetime Hospice who lovingly cared for Alice at home in her final days. She appreciated you all very much. A celebration of Alice’s life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Houghton College or Pearce Memorial Free Methodist Church.
