Gates – On Monday, August 2, 2021 at age 83 God’s angels came to take her home after a brief illness of cancer. Predeceased by her parents, James V. and Eleanor (Doran) Sweeney. Survived by her brother, Patrick V. (Caryl M.); nephews, John (Kelly) and Michael Sweeney; nieces, Melissa Delaney and Jennifer (Tim) Krehling; great-nephews, Eoghan Sweeney, Jacob Delaney and Dylan Krehling; several close cousins and friends.
Mary Ellen had many close aunts, uncles and cousins waiting to welcome her. She had precious memories of her faith, family, friends, Champlain St., Immaculate Conception, St. Agnes High School, anything Rochester, Susan B. Anthony House, American Irish Cultural Institute and cats and dogs. She received her education at Immaculate Conception, St. Agnes High School, Monroe Community and Nazareth Colleges. She received an Associates in Science in Business Administration, Bachelor of Science Cum Laude and a Master of Science in Education. She worked at Rochester Telephone Co., Xerox Corp. and Manufacturers Hanover Bank.
Friends may call at the Leo M. Bean and Sons Funeral Home Tuesday 4-7pm. Graveside service Wednesday 10am at Grove Place Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
