John H. (Jack) Milner

John H. (Jack) Milner, 79, of Brockport, NY, passed away on January 20, 2024. He was born on September 6, 1944, in Rochester, NY. Jack was a family man who adored his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 58 years, Beverly McClellan Milner, his daughters Denise (Gregg) and Kerri (David), and his grandchildren Lauren (Phillip), Haley, Miles, Jacob, Wesley, and Eleanor. He is also survived by his siblings Mark and Marcy. Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn, father, John, and sister Donna.

Jack attended the Clarkson Schoolhouse for primary school and Brockport High School for his secondary education. He furthered his studies at Indiana State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education, and later pursued a Master’s degree in Education and Certificate of Advanced Studies in Administration from SUNY Brockport.

Throughout his career, Jack made a significant impact as a teacher and coach. From 1966 to 1970, he taught Health and Physical Education at Holley Central Schools, followed by a tenure at Churchville-Chili Central Schools from 1970 to 1986. In 1976, Jack was honored as the Section V Class AA Basketball Coach of the Year. He then served as the Athletic Director at Churchville-Chili from 1977 to 1986. Later, he became the Vice Principal and eventually the Principal of A.D. Oliver Middle School in Brockport from 1986 to 1999. In 2009, Jack was inducted to the Brockport Central School District Wall of Honor.

He served 23 years as the President of the Monroe County Public School Athletic Association. Jack’s dedication to his community extended beyond education and athletics, as he also served as the Sweden Town Supervisor (2009-2012) and was the founding President of the Sweden Community Foundation. Additionally, he established the Westside Challenger Baseball program, which brought joy to many young athletes with special needs.

In his free time, Jack enjoyed playing golf and attending nearly every game and performance by his grandchildren. His love for his family was evident in all aspects of his life.

Friends and loved ones may call at Fowler Funeral Home, 340 West Ave, Brockport, NY 14420 on Saturday, January 27 from 2 PM to 5 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 1, 2024 at A.D. Oliver Middle School.

Jack’s family and friends will profoundly feel his absence. Jack’s love for his hometown will live on in the myriad projects he spearheaded to enrich the lives of the Brockport community.
