Marian J. Smith

Passed away peacefully at the Episcopal Church Home on April 25, 2025, just shy of her 90th birthday. She was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Irene Wallace; her devoted husband of fifty-six years, Thomas Smith; and her brother, Robert Wallace. Marian’s memory will be cherished by her son, David Smith (Tricia Andrews Smith), her daughter, Kathryn Smith, and her grandchildren, Samuel, Abigail, and Jackson. She is also survived by her brother, Alan Wallace; sisters-in-law Anne (Thorton) Wallace, Patricia (Edgett) Wallace, and Dorothy Smith; as well as her loving nieces and nephews, Bonnie (Wallace) Monroe, Brian Wallace (Renee), Lisa Ekiert (Richard), and Rob Wallace.
Born on June 18, 1935, in Cambridge, New York, Marian spent forty-two years as a public school teacher, with a significant portion of her career spent teaching sixth graders at Taylor Elementary School in Spencerport, NY. A respected educator and leader, she served as president of the Spencerport Teachers’ Association and was a board member of the Spencerport Federal Credit Union.
Marian and Tom first met while beginning their teaching careers in Friendship, NY, and married on Columbus Day weekend in 1958. Together, they cultivated a life rich in shared interests, including a commitment to public education, a passion for travel, and a devotion to family. In her later years, Marian found immense joy in the company of her three grandchildren, who were the center of her world.
A dedicated member of the Ogden Presbyterian Church, Marian served as the church organist for over thirty years and took on numerous leadership roles within the community.
A memorial service commemorating Marian’s life will be held on Monday, May 5th, 2025, at 11 AM at Ogden Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marian’s honor to the Ogden Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 2400 S. Union Street, Spencerport, NY 14559.
