Artifacts display, book debut bring new life to Clarendon's Polly's Tavern
On Wednesday, December 5, the Clarendon Historical Society will host a book debut and artifact exhibit at the Clarendon Town Hall on Church Street. The event highlights the work of Dr. LouAnn Wurst of the Department of Anthropology at SUNY College at Brockport. In 1999 Dr. Wurst led students in an archeological dig at the Polly Tavern site in the Town of Clarendon near the corner of 31A and County Line Road. more

Brockport residents to perform at Lakeside annual dinner
Brockport residents Geri Lemcke and Cathleen A. Gurnett will be performing at Lakeside's Annual Gala Dinner at the Riverside Convention Center on December 7. more

Chamber of Commerce sponsors community decorating contest
Residents of the Spencerport community will once again share their enthusiasm for the Christmas holiday by decorating the exteriors of their homes. In its fifth year, this contest is sponsored by the Spencerport Area Chamber of Commerce. more

Information about the Town of Clarkson is just a mouse click or a keystroke away. Residents, visitors and those who enjoy surfing the Internet have been able to click on Clarkson's website since it went on line in September. more

Community concerts kick off holiday season on right note
The 50 voice Spencerport Community Chorus will present its annual Holiday Concerts on Saturday, December 1 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 2 at 3 p.m. The concerts are free, with baskets available for free-will donations. The concerts are held at the historic First United Congregational Church (The White Church), 65 Church Street, Spencerport. more

Hilton School capital project goes up for vote
Hilton residents will have a chance to vote on the largest capital project in the history of the Hilton School District, December 4. The $58 million project is more than five times as costly as the last capital project, which began in 1996. more

Historic preservation efforts
The Historic Preservation Committee of the Western Monroe Historical Society meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 2:30 p.m. The group gathers at the lovely Morgan Manning House on Brockport's Main Street. more

Interim pastor welcomed at Ogden Presbyterian
Ogden Presbyterian Church welcomed Interim Pastor The Reverend Sharron Man. On Sunday, November 11, a covenant celebration between the Ogden Presbyterian Church congregation and the Presbytery of the Genesee Valley was led by Acting Interim Presbytery Executive, The Reverend Alan Gripe; Marlene Dyer, Clerk of Session; and Robert Wallace, Personnel and Presbytery Delegate. more

MOMS Club of Hilton gathers 250 coats
The MOMS (Moms Offering Moms Support) Club of Hilton recently sponsored a Winter Coat Drive to benefit the Hilton/Parma Community Center Clothing Closet. Coats were dropped off at two locations in Hilton where they were picked up by MOMS Club members, sorted and given to the Clothing Closet. more

No owls for Christmas, please
Harry Potter's love for his pet Snowy Owl, "Hedwig," has some wildlife experts worried that the new film, "Harry Potter and Sorcerer's Stone" may encourage children to want a pet owl, too. more

On being blind
No one seems to know for sure how many Brockport residents are blind. The best estimate available from the Rochester Association for the Blind is half a dozen. Local estimates are a bit higher. For this article, five people were interviewed. more

The second annual Candlelight Walk will be held in Brockport, Sunday, December 2. All are invited to attend and participate. The purpose of the Candlelight Walk is three-fold: to raise awareness that there are needy folks in our community, to raise money to help them, and to strengthen the bond of community in the holiday season. more

Students recognized for recycling efforts
America Recycles Day, a day to promote recycling and purchasing recycled products, was celebrated Sunday, November 18. Students from four schools who returned the highest percentage of pledges to recycle received recognition and a visit from Chet the Cheetah, at Chase-Pitkin, 3349 Monroe Avenue. more
