Brockport CSD students invited to Walk to School Day, Oct. 2

Brockport Central School District is observing International Walk to School Day on October 2. The annual event that promotes the benefits of physical activity is sponsored locally by The Walk to School Subcommittee of Walk! Bike! Brockport!
Parents, children and friends are encouraged to enjoy walking or riding their bikes or scooters during Brockport’s 8th annual Walk to School Day. Parents could even work together to start a “Walking School Bus,” complete with neighborhood “bus stops” to pick up children planning to walk. Students are invited to show their school pride by wearing blue and white during this year’s Walk to School Day.
Families who would like to walk to school, but don’t live within walking distance, may park and walk from either Rite Aid (corner of West Ave and Main) or Bill Gray’s. Student athletes from The College at Brockport will be at both locations and will walk with families. Community volunteers wearing bright colored Walk!Bike!Brockport vests will greet participants at intersections along the Main Street and Sweden Village/Ellis Drive routes.
This event and school walking activities enhance the District-wide healthy initiatives already in place. There will be giveaways from Safe Routes to School and apples donated from Kalir Farm available at tents in the Rite Aid and Bill Gray’s parking lots beginning at 8 a.m. (while supplies last). Younger children must walk with an adult. All schools will begin on time and all buses will run as scheduled. The event will continue rain or shine, however parents should use their judgment in the event of inclement weather.
