Performers present workshop on songwriting followed by a concert
A two-hour songwriting workshop at the Gillam-Grant Community Center in Bergen November 16 will provide a unique opportunity for local musicians and music lovers.
Los Angeles performer Adrianne Gonzalez (professional known as AG) and New York City singer-songwriter-guitarist Natalia Zukerman (daughter of famed classical musician Pinchas Zukeman) will be offering the workshop in advance of a performance together at the Byron-Bergen High School auditorium at 8 p.m. on the 16.
The workshop runs from 3 to 5 p.m. Advance registration is required and the cost of $30 includes a nontransferrable ticket to the concert that evening.
“By enrolling in the workshop, songwriters – and aspiring songwriters – get personal attention from two hugely successful professional musicians in an intimate setting because enrollment is limited to 30,” says Gillam-Grant Executive Director Peggy Swapceinski. “Tickets to the concert are $15, so workshop enrollees really are paying only $15 for the two-hour, one-on-one experience with AG and Natalia.”
AG has won two international songwriting competitions and has been a finalist in four. Her music has been heard on TV shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Private Practice,” “In Plain Sight,” “Ghost Whisperer,” and “One Tree Hill.” Last year, she was featured on the cover of Performer magazine to coincide with the release of her CD “Reimagine,” featuring her interpretation of the only six Beatles songs not owned by Sony Records. She is a member of the pop group The Rescues and performs and records as a solo artist.
Natalia just returned from Spain where she studied Flamenco guitar in Grenada. Her album “Gas Station Roses” was voted number one Record of 2011 on Radio Crystal Blue, and her most recent album – “Gypsies and Clowns” – has been met with critical acclaim. She was a finalist in both the Rocky Mountain and Telluride Festival songwriting competitions and is included in Stephen Azzato’s 2010 book, Their Love of Music, along with the likes of Dave Brubeck, Roseanne Cash and Loudon Wainwright III.
Tickets for the evening concert are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Proceeds benefit programming at the Gillam-Grant Community Center.
