New administrators appointed in Hilton
The Hilton Central School District appointed Karen Spillman as director of K-12 Learning and Staff Development. Spillman has been the principal of Quest Elementary School since 2007. She began her career as a speech therapist before joining the district in 1999 as a reading teacher at Northwood Elementary School. In 2004, Spillman completed her administrative internship at Quest Elementary, was appointed assistant principal in 2005 and then principal. “Over the years Karen has exhibited exemplary leadership skills, as well as outstanding knowledge of curriculum, assessment, and instruction,” said Dr. Barbara Surash, assistant superintendent for instruction.
“I know how incredibly special Quest is,” said Spillman. “Leaving the students, staff and parents is really hard, but I will transition to being a Hilton administrator in a position that I’m passionate about and will remain an immensely proud Quest parent.” Spillman lives in Clarkson with her husband Christopher and seven-year old twins, Ella and Brodie, who are primary students at Quest.
Renee Mulrooney, assistant principal at the Northwood Elementary School, will replace Spillman as Quest Elementary principal. Mulrooney began her career in education in Savannah, Georgia where she taught first and second grade before becoming a reading specialist. In 2002, she worked as a reading specialist and literacy coach for Monroe 2 – Orleans BOCES. After completing the administrative program at the University of Rochester in 2009, Mulrooney joined the Greece Central School District as an assistant principal and supervisor of literacy coaches at the elementary level. She worked at West Ridge, Holmes Road and Buckman Heights Elementary Schools as the assistant principal for three years before coming to Hilton in 2012.
“Hilton is a school district with tremendous talent and it has been such a pleasure to work with our dedicated teachers to help our students reach their full potential,” remarked Mulrooney. “I am thrilled to join the Quest team and be a member of their dynamic and creative community.” Mulrooney and her husband, Joe, live in West Irondequoit with their three children, Griffin, 11, Cece, 9, and Daniel, 7.
