Northwood’s Geo Bee Champ

Alex Morreale (left), a fifth grade student in Christine Bergin’s class at Hilton’s Northwood Elementary School, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee on January 15 and a chance at a $50,000 college scholarship.

Students answered written and oral questions at the school-level Bee, which was the first round in the 26th annual National Geographic Bee.

Alex correctly answered the fourth championship tiebreaker question: “What’s the term for melted rock beneath the Earth’s surface that could erupt as lava? (Answer “magma”). Afterwards, he took, the written qualifying test to see if he will be able to represent Northwood at the state level of competition in April.
