Guide Dog in training visit Northwood class
Show and Tell was especially exciting for Laurel O’Donaghue’s fifth grade class at Northwood Elementary School recently when Hilton High School teacher Steve Randall and his son Nicholas, a student in O’Donaghue’s class, brought in Nitro, the guide dog they are fostering. The Randalls will foster Nitro for 18 months at which time he will be returned for formal training if he has the right termperment to become a guide dog. If not, Nitro could be trained for police work.
As puppy raisers, the Randalls explained that they are responsible for teaching their puppy good manners and basic obedience. If Nitro makes the cut, he will be taught by skilled instructors to safely guide someone through the complexities of pedestrian travel.
