Cleghorn named NHS Teacher of the Year

Sarah Cleghorn, Spanish teacher, was selected by the Churchville-Chili chapter of the National Honor Society as the 2013-14 Teacher of the Year.

Each year, the current members of National Honor Society make recommendations for one teacher they would like to nominate for the award. The officers make the final selection and they were unanimous with their choice.

Some of the reasons that Cleghorn was selected include her outgoing and caring personality, her hard work with students during and after school and her involvement in school activities (among them Pep Rally, Spirit Week themes, chaperoning, attending sporting events, the teacher dance).

One of the nominations for Cleghorn came from C-C junior Jane Huffer. “She has gone especially out her way this year in helping me specifically with an independent study of Pre-AP Spanish,” wrote Huffer. “She has such a positive energy and she helps brighten our whole school atmosphere. She strives to see the best in everyone and is a positive role model to many students. Even though she started teaching in the district just last year, it feels like she has been here forever and she has really integrated herself into our school. On top of all of this, she really is a great teacher and I have never met anyone who has had anything negative to say about her.”

Cleghorn is the first member of the Languages other than English (LOTE) department to win the award since it has been recorded (1993).

As Teacher of the Year, Cleghorn is invited to be the guest of honor at the fall NHS induction ceremony where she will give a short speech regarding the qualities required for membership in NHS: character, leadership, service and scholarship.
