The rain held off so that students and staff at Northwood Elementary School could honor the flag and those who serve this country. The school community, along with several local dignitaries, gathered in front of the school where the Northwood Advanced Band performed, inspiring speeches were heard, and poems were read.
“Our freedom is our strength and without our flag it would have no meaning,” said Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich.
PFC Jason Hasenauer, U.S. Army, and LCPL Brian Schramm, U.S. Marines, were remembered with a moment of silence.
Students read facts about the flag aloud as well as “a Toast to the Flag,” a poem by John Jay Daly.
