C-C’s Chestnut Ridge and Churchville Elementary schools make NYS Top Ten list for Hoops for Heart campaign
Fundraising results were recently released for the American Heart Association’s 2013-14 annual Hoops for Heart campaign. Churchville-Chili was included in the New York State Top Ten list. Churchville Elementary School raised $14,209 – the fourth-highest fundraising school in New York State. The dual Jump Rope for Heart/Hoops for Heart event held at Chestnut Ridge School raised even more, $20,886, giving CRS students the #2 spot in the state.
Since 1991-92, CRS has raised almost $225,000 to support the AHA. In 2012, CRS was the #1 fundraiser in the nation.
“The entire school district does an amazing job educating the students about heart health and the mission of the American Heart Association,” says AHA regional coordinator Ashley Dates. “When I walk in the buildings, the kids know … what the association stands for and where the dollars go. Every year, each school amazes me and raises above and beyond what other schools do. Last year was an amazing year … and each building had an increase over what they raised in 2013. For that, I want to make sure we are congratulating Fairbanks Road School and the Middle School as well!”
More than 3,000 schools nationwide participate in the Hoops for Heart and Jump Rope for Heart programs. The events are fun, promote sports and fitness, educate students in the risks of heart disease and stroke, and help lay the groundwork for life-long community activism and volunteering. The campaigns at Churchville-Chili schools are organized and managed by teachers Brooke Elnicky, Greg Kincaid, Bethany Matsko and Michael Schluter.
