Center for Workforce Develoment to offer Culinary Arts Program

Famed Rochester Area Chef Don Antinore to teach next generation of chefs

The Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Center for Workforce Development (CWD) has added a culinary program to its catalog of adult job-training classes. The 25-week program is designed to provide students age 18 or older with a variety of culinary skills and techniques that will prepare them for a career in hospitality.

The chefs-in-training will learn how to skillfully prepare and serve meals that look as good as they taste while increasing their knowledge of food science, diet and nutrition.  Students will prepare and sample a variety of menu items while they learn and practice skills in baking and pastry arts, culinary arts, front of the house service, hospitality, safety and sanitation. Lecture and hands-on training will culminate in a work-based internship.

The program will be taught by Chef Don Antinore, a well-known local chef who has enjoyed a long career that included positions at various prestigious clubs and restaurants, TV and radio shows, authoring a cookbook and running his own cooking school. “I love working with students and allowing them to ignite their passion for the career. This is a great field to be in. People will always need cooks,” said Antinore.

The Culinary Arts program, which begins on November 2, is Pell Grant and Stafford Loan-eligible for qualified students. It will run Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m. for a total of 600 hours of instruction and internship. To attend an upcoming Information Session, contact CWD at 585-349-9100.
