Brockport NHS students invited to exclusive event at Wilmot Cancer Institute
Two National Honor Society students were invited to attend the American Cancer Society Research Reception at the Wilmot Cancer Institute in Rochester on November 5. Brockport seniors Danielle Falkenstein and Laritza Fernandez Claro helped raise nearly $2,000 for the American Cancer Society through a fashion show fundraiser last year.
The exclusive reception included breakfast, presentations and a tour of the research facilities to give the students an opportunity to see firsthand how donated money is used. The American Cancer Society has awarded nearly $10 million in grants to cancer researchers at the University of Rochester Medical Center over the past ten years.
Danielle and Laritza collaboratively coordinated the fashion show this past March to benefit the American Cancer Society. Local businesses provided clothes for models to wear the day of the show as well as items that were auctioned off. Both girls are currently planning the next fashion show fundraiser for this coming March.
