Tyler returns as interim board member
The Spencerport Board of Education is pleased to welcome back Janet Tyler, to serve as an interim member for the seat vacated by Michael Zale.
The Board unanimously approved Tyler on December 8, after a thorough review of qualified letters of interest. Tyler, who previously served on the board from 2012-15, will officially begin on January 1, 2016 and serve until the next community budget vote on May 17, 2016. According to education law, after that vote, the candidate with the third highest votes will serve out the remainder of Zale’s term until 2017.
Board President William Sweeney said of the selection, “We are very appreciative to Janet Tyler for her willingness to serve on the board during this interim. She brings her previous knowledge and experience and will be able to step in without any need for transition. This advantage will be invaluable to the district, especially as we begin our budget development for 2016-17.”
Sweeney went on to express the board’s appreciation for all the community interest during this selection process. “We certainly are grateful for the level of community engagement and the willingness to volunteer,” he said. “We certainly hope that all the interested residents consider future volunteer opportunities, whether it is to seek board election or serve on other district committees.”
Tyler will replace Zale, who submitted his intent to resign after being elected to the Monroe County Legislature in November.
