Spencerport adopts budget with zero tax rate increase
During its meeting on April 12, the Spencerport School Board of Education adopted a 2016-17 budget proposal, which totals $77.1 million and projects a zero percent tax rate increase.
The expenditure plan, which will be presented to voters on Tuesday, May 17, includes a:
•Projected tax rate of $24.09 per $1,000 of assessed home value, a zero increase for the second year in a row.
•Tax levy of $35.5 million, an increase of 0.5 percent, which is less than the 1 percent maximum allowable tax levy with exclusions.
Superintendent Michael Crumb said that the proposed budget reflects:
•Feedback provided from the community through previous exit polls, the Board of Education, and the volunteers serving on the Budget Focus Group
•An enhancement to instruction and student opportunities
•Multi-year financial planning in how best to utilize state aid and the restored funding from the state’s Gap Elimination Adjustment
•A reduced reliance on reserves.
The community budget vote on the 2016-17 proposal will take place from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17. For more budget details, along with the schedule of public presentations for April and May, visit the district website at www.spencerportschools.org.
