Rhinos get a kick out of reading
Members of the Rochester Rhinos will be at the Holley Community Free Library, 86 Public Square, Holley on Monday, August 1 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm for a family night in support of the library’s “On Your Mark, Get Set, READ” summer reading program.
“The 2016 summer reading program emphasizes sports, physical fitness, good nutrition and of course, reading,” said Library Director, Sandy Shaw. “We are so excited that a major professional team from Rochester is coming to Holley. Soccer is a big sport here for kids of all ages, and the Rhinos are stars in the Holley community.”
Members of the Rochester Rhinos will talk about their training sessions, demonstrate a few moves, answer questions and sign autographs. In addition, they will read the book Rhinos Who Play Soccer by Julie Mammano to the audience.
“It was fun trying to find a book about soccer for the guys to read to the kids,” said Shaw, “and to find one where Team Rhino plays the All Stars seemed very appropriate. Spoiler alert: Team Rhino doesn’t win (unlike the Rochester Rhinos), so it will provide the Rhino readers with an opportunity to talk about good sportsmanship and trying harder.”
“We do want to thank Pat Ercoli for making this happen. He has a philosophy of community involvement and community outreach for this team, and we are so glad that the Holley-area children will benefit from his philosophy,” Shaw continued. “Because we are a rural community outside of Monroe County, sometimes it is difficult to attract big names. Pat and his staff not only jumped on our invitation, they are completely enthusiastic about the opportunity to meet with their Orleans County fans and support summer reading at the same time.”
This event is free to the public. For additional information, contact Sandra Shaw at 638-6987.
