Hilton Education Foundation awards scholarships to Class of 2016
The Hilton Education Foundation (HEF) awarded two $2,500 scholarships in addition to two Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Tablets and the Surface Pro 4 Type Cover to Hilton High School 2016 graduates Alexa Miles and Michael Cunico. Alexa attends SUNY Brockport and Michael attends SUNY Buffalo.
HEF offers two scholarships in its name annually to Hilton High School seniors. The Hilton Education Foundation Scholarship is awarded to a senior based on continued academic progress, extra-curricular involvement and volunteer work. The Foundation also awards the Hilton Education Foundation Skilled Trades and Services Scholarship to a student who will further his or her education in skilled trades or services. Aaron and Alana Unterborn have donated of Microsoft Surface Pro 4 tablet computers along with matching Surface Type Covers to the HEF recipients this year. Aaron, a HCSD 1994 alum is Director for New Product Introduction at Microsoft where he manages the supply chain for Microsoft hardware including the world’s most productive tablets, which will hopefully be a valuable tool for these graduates. The dollar value of the donation is matched through Microsoft’s Give program and will go towards the HEF scholarship fund.
HEF was incorporated in 2006 to provide students with opportunities beyond what the school district can provide. These opportunities are geared toward helping students become self-directed, lifelong learners who think critically and creatively and function as caring, responsible and productive members of society.
Along with awarding scholarships, HEF supports the Cadet Cupboard and Principals’ Checkbook for students in need, and mini-grants to support new innovative classroom projects. Alumni tours of West Avenue (Quest) or Hilton High School for reunion groups are also offered. To schedule a tour, contact Pat Unterborn at punterborn@gmail.com or Grace Griffee at 392-1000, ext. 6105.
HEF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit led by a five-member Board of Directors that is comprised of volunteer members from the community, business and education, and is a member of the American Schools Foundation Alliance (asfalliance.org).
