The annual March Mayhem basketball game sponsored by the Churchville-Chili LEO Club raised  $3,369 for their fellow LEO member and classmate junior Alex Voglewede.

The event, held on March 4,  drew an enthusiastic army of students who came out in force to support their classmate who was diagnosed with Leukemia as school started last fall. Alex has had to undergo extensive chemo treatments and a bone marrow transplant forcing him to miss schoo. He has started to regain his strength and return to classes, and is still doing some physical rehab.

The basketball activity started with a match between the Churchville Lions Club (with support from the Churchville Volunteer Fire Department) and the LEO Club, which is comprised of students in grades 7 through 12 at Churchville-Chili. Then the students took over with the Churchville-Chili Girls and Boys soccer and basketball programs providing much spirited action between the teams. Finally, the students played against a team of teachers from the school.

At the end, the only number that mattered was the total donations which had come in for the Voglewede family to help them with the medical expenses involved with Alex’s treatments. The students were able to present the check to Alex recently after school. Approximately 80 students had brought in donations and took part in the basketball game.
