The Hilton Central Schools Teachers Association (HCSTA) 2018-19 Teacher of the Year Award was presented at the annual staff convocation at Hilton High School in September. This year’s honoree is Kendrick Krause, Hilton High School math teacher, who is described by staff and families as always putting students first.
Krause joined the district in 1996 and has taught many of the math courses offered at Hilton High School, along with computer science. He has also served as 7 to 12 math coordinator, K to 12 testing coordinator and athletic coordinator, and coached boys’ soccer for 10 years. Krause is known as an educator who creates masterful lessons, makes classes exciting and fun, and has unparalleled student management skills.
“I have been blessed to teach some amazing kids over the past 22 years and would not want to be anywhere else,” said Krause, who was nominated by student Maverick Clark. “Knowing that a student of mine went out of his way and spent countless hours working on this makes this honor that much more special. Hilton is an amazing school district with so many excellent teachers, so to be selected this year’s teacher of the year is such an honor and a complete shock to me.”
The finalists for this year’s award were: Matt Miller, Hilton High School; Debi Lipani and Bill Smith, Merton Williams Middle School; Candice Hudson and Jessica Thompson, Northwood Elementary School; John Weingart, Quest Elementary School; and Beth Fabrizio and Pam Stadtmiller, Village Elementary School.
Nominees must have more than five years of exceptional service to the district, active involvement in the Hilton community, and have made a substantial impact on the lives of their students and colleagues.
