Hilton HS announces Valedictorian and Salutatorian
Hilton High School has named Ethan DeGrandis as Valedictorian and Skylaar Garbowski as Salutatorian of the Class of 2020. Ethan, the son of Philip and Christine DeGrandis, plans to study biomedical engineering after graduating high school. Skylaar, the daughter of Paage and Debbi Garbowski, will be attending Roberts Wesleyan College in the fall where she will major in Homeland Security and Applied Intelligence.
Twenty-twenty is the last year the Hilton School District will name an individual valedictorian and salutatorian. In November 2017, the Board of Education adopted a policy that, beginning with the graduating class of 2021 (students who entered grade nine in September 2017), recognizes three levels of achievement at graduation:
•Valedictory Honor Graduate – 97% GPA and above
•Salutatory Honor Graduate – 95% GPA and above
•Honor Graduate – 90% GPA and above
In addition, students can receive Collegiate Distinction if they complete five or more International Baccalaureate and/or Advanced Placement courses and the corresponding IB/AP assessment.
