Byron-Bergen sophomore creates Dairy Fairy to support community

Byron-Bergen sophomore Rachel Best works on a dairy farm and has seen firsthand how family farms are being negatively affected by COVID-19. She wanted to help farmers and assist local families, so she became a fairy, a Dairy Fairy. Building off the current internet trend of “wine fairy” groups on Facebook, Best set up her own group.

“Let’s help out our farmers by buying and gifting others in our community with milk, dairy products, and produce,” said Best.

Best is gifting and facilitating the gift of dairy products and produce through her Facebook Page, “Dairy Fairy.” With over 1,500 members in just a week, the Dairy Fairy group is spreading throughout Genesee County.

“I want to acknowledge how our students are truly giving back to their communities, displaying leadership and compassion during this difficult time,” said Liberty Scholar Program Counselor Samantha Golden. “I am so proud of Rachel. She is an exceptional individual.”

Best is a Byron-Bergen Liberty Scholar, newly elected FFA District 9 President, and a member of 4-H. She plans to attend SUNY Morrisville for Dairy Management in 2022. For more information on Dairy Fairy, visit the Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/1109267442760621/.
