Brockport prepares to welcome college students
Mayor Blackman and college administrators have been meeting to discuss “Bringing Brockport Back.” Early next week there will be a letter going out from the college to all students laying out the guidelines for returning to the college during a pandemic, accompanied by a letter from the mayor detailing community expectations.
The community letter from the mayor will be posted on www.brockportny.org, the village’s Facebook page, and in the forthcoming village newsletter. Additionally, there will be an icon on the SUNY Bringing Brockport Back webpage https://brockport.edu/coronavirus/ for Community, listing community resources and guidelines. The college’s reopening plan is available on this site as well.
Residents are asked to keep in mind that 97 percent of SUNY Brockport students are New York state residents, most of whom come from the Rochester and Buffalo areas; most college students joining the Brockport community for the school year will not be coming from coronavirus hotspots, and these students will be asked to follow specific protocols.
Brockport Police will be working closely with the Office of Student Conduct to ensure off-campus behavior is meeting safety guidelines. The Chief of Police and a representative from the college’s Office of Student Conduct will be going door to door, talking with off-campus students and educating them on these guidelines.
“It is a challenging year to welcome college students back to our village, but it is necessary, and we wish them well in their pursuit of their education. We will work together to keep our resident community and college community well and thriving, and to keep the public informed,” said Mayor Blackman.
