Spencerport Education Foundation awards scholarships
The Spencerport Education Foundation has awarded four Spencerport seniors – Ryan Davis, Brandon Ferrigno, Jordan McEntee, and Anna Walsh – with John Rueping Memorial Scholarships. The scholarship, in memory of John Rueping, a longtime Spencerport resident and Kodak engineer, recognizes Mr. Reuping’s love of engineering by awarding all four seniors each a gift of $5,000. The students must attend a four-year institution with an ABET certified engineering program and must complete the first semester of study at college with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Ryan Davis plans to attend Clarkson University where he will major in mechanical engineering. While at Spencerport , he had a 4.63 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society, French Honor Society, Ranger Robotics, and Chess Club. He was also a member of the varsity tennis team, Friday Jazz Band, Pep Band, and Concert Band. He works at Gates Big M and is active in his church youth group.
Brandon Ferrigno plans to attend SUNY College at Buffalo where he will major in chemical engineering. At Spencerport , he had a 4.84 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Government, Service Club, and the Choices Program. Brandon was also a member of Ranger Robotics and a mentor to a K-2 grade robotics team. He participated in varsity soccer, tennis, and track. Brandon works at Wegmans Pharmacy and busses tables for a local community center.
Jordan McEntee plans to attend SUNY College at Buffalo where he will major in mechanical engineering. While at Spencerport, Jordan had a 4.46 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society, Ranger Robotics, Student Government, and the Chess Club. He participated in varsity soccer, track, and golf, as well as Ski Club. He volunteers for the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and Foodlink to name a few. Jordan has also volunteered as a youth soccer referee, a mentor/instructor for elementary students in STEM fields, as a participant in his church’s summer missionary projects.
Anna Walsh plans to attend the University of Rochester where she will major in biomedical engineering. At Spencerport, she had a 4.78 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society, National Hispanic Honors Society, Students Government, and Sources of Strength. Anna was also a member of Ranger Robotics, Italian Club, Math Madness, and the Ski Club. She was also involved in the Jazz Band, Woodwind Quintet, Wind Ensemble, and varsity tennis. Anna created and leads “Love Must Act,” a partnership between a school in South Africa and the local community here. As part of this program, donations have been collected and pen pals established with the students of the school.
