Brockport teacher receives Golden Apple Award
Brockport teacher Miss Silva Wharram was recently presented with the Golden Apple Award by News 8. She teaches first grade at Ginther Elementary School and has been with Brockport Central School District since 2013.
Miss Wharram was nominated for the award by Liz Hamilton, whose daughter Mackenzie is learning fully remote in Miss Wharram’s class.
“The way that she conducts her class is incredible! While teaching synchronously, she seamlessly flows between the students in the classroom and those on the screen, and has been able to foster that same interaction between the students as well,” says Hamilton. “Silvia also takes the time to check in with the students’ parents to see how things are going for the virtual aspect of school. This support is so important and much appreciated.”
“I love that I make a difference in these kids’ lives every single day,” says Miss Wharram. “I’m here and I’m dedicated to them, and I would do anything that I possibly can to help them learn and grow, even in this pandemic.”
The story aired during the News 8 Sunrise show on Wednesday, March 3. Watch the segment on the News 8 website, Rochesterfirst.com, by selecting “Golden Apple Awards” under the “Community” tab.
