Hilton HS inducts 76 students into National Honor Society
Parents, Board of Education members, administrators and staff gathered on December 9 at Hilton High School to honor the induction of 76 students – 57 juniors and 19 seniors – into the Hilton Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS).
Advisors Dr. Carl Gaupp and Matthew Pietarinen welcomed attendees to the ceremony before Assistant Principal Carol Saladzius took the stage to thank parents, guardians, and family members for their part in helping to mold the fine individuals being honored. “The students we honor tonight put their academics at the forefront of what they do here,” said Saladzius. “They put other people before themselves and lead in a way that makes others want to follow them. They understand what it means to have integrity and they do the right thing, even when no one is watching. They are the difference makers of their generation.”
This year’s keynote speaker, selected by the students, was Mr. Terrance Gilmore, social studies teacher. “Not only have you all achieved this incredible accomplishment. You have done so in the face of those same unprecedented circumstances I mentioned before. No high school students in history have had an experience like you have, and not only have you made it through it, you’ve excelled in the face of it,” he told the inductees.
National Honor Society officers – President Hannah Meagher, Secretary Doron Indelicato, and Treasurer Molly Standing – reviewed the four pillars of membership, which are scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Rylie DelVecchio serves as vice president.
Each inductee was called up to the front of the auditorium to have a parent place a NHS pin on their lapel and to sign the registry. Students then lit a candle and together recited the NHS oath.
