Byron-Bergen mechanic named transportation Employee of the Year

On Thursday, May 12, Automotive Mechanic Jon Thompson was awarded the 2022 Rochester Area Transportation Supervisors Association’s Professional Pupil Transportation Employee of the Year for Byron-Bergen Central School District. Recipients of this award are nominated by their peers based on their good attendance, excellent driving record, willingness to exceed responsibilities, friendly disposition, and positive relationships with co-workers, students, and families. The District celebrated Thompson’s win with a Transportation Department luncheon and award ceremony.

“I’m so excited that Jon won this award,” said Transportation Supervisor Jaime Vindigni. “I really want everyone to know that he is so much more than a mechanic. He maintains the Buildings and Grounds vehicles, he drives the buses when we are short of drivers, and he helps plow the snow – he does everything and does it with an amazing attitude.”

Included in Thompson’s list of accomplishments are perfect bus inspections two years in a row from the New York State Department of Transportation. He has been with the district 14 years.

The Rochester Area Transportation Supervisors Association (RATSA) is an organization of professional school bus supervisors who are dedicated to providing safe and efficient services to the educational areas of Monroe and adjoining counties located within New York State. It is a chapter of the New York Association for Pupil Transportation.
