The Churchville-Chili Senior High Chapter of National Honor Society has selected math teacher Micah Court as the 2022 Churchville-Chili Teacher of the Year. He will be the guest speaker at the 2022 NHS Fall Induction ceremony (scheduled for November 21 at 7 p.m. in the C-C PAC). The tradition of naming a Teacher of Year started many years ago to honor and recognize one teacher each year who goes above and beyond to make a difference at the high school. Being recognized by students for exemplary performance as a teacher is an extraordinary achievement.
Micah Court has taught math – geometry, calculus, computer science – at the SHS for eight years. His favorite thing about teaching is building relationships with students: “When students see you as a real person, they are far more likely to be engaged in a class.” He was surprised at being chosen as Teacher of the Year. He said, “I want to thank all of the students that made this possible. You’re the reason that I love coming to work every day! I would also like to thank all the dedicated, hardworking staff in the district, with a special thank you to the Senior High School math department for their support.”

•“Mr. Court has been the best teacher all year. In a very tough honor pre-calc class, he made class very fun and entertaining. He always keeps things light and brightens our day. He is a very good teacher, making sure we understand everything that he teaches. His laugh is contagious and lifts our spirits. He provides a tough yet rewarding curriculum.”
•“His lessons are intriguing and he knows how to balance work and play. He offers after school help multiple days a week for any students who need it, and his one-on-one lessons are extremely helpful. His classroom is always full of laughter, which makes his students feel like he appreciates our presence just as much as we appreciate his. Mr. Court deserves to be recognized for his joyful personality and diligent work as a math teacher.”
•“Mr. Court is always working hard. Even when he is not at school he puts in his best effort. During March, he had jury duty for over a week. Even though he was not here, he still found a way to teach us to the best of his ability. He is always willing to help when it is needed.”
•“He is very good at teaching the curriculum and he spends time making sure that we understand the content. Mr. Court is also very good at communicating with us about how we can get better grades and giving us opportunities to raise them at the end of each quarter with extra credit assignments and bonus questions on tests. He takes individual time out of class to help kids with their work, even if they are not in his math class. Mr. Court is a lot of people’s favorite teacher because he is nice, funny and understanding.”
