Northwood fifth graders compete at Western NY Invention Convention
On April 30, nine Northwood fifth graders in the REACH program traveled to the Buffalo Museum and Science Center to compete with students from around the state in the Western NY Invention Convention. They are: Emma Carpino, Avery Carusone, Gavin Conover, Cole Murphy, Reagan Paolini, Reese Paolini, Leo Pino, Logan Steinebach, and Levi Zimmermann.
“They did a great amount of research to uncover a problem and then create an invention to solve this problem,” said Melanie Klock, REACH teacher. “Their hard work was rewarded at the Convention as all were recognized for their great inventions!” The following students received awards:
•Avery Carusone, inventor of Pack of Possibilities: People’s Choice Award;
•Cole Murphy, inventor of Goldilock’s Dog Toys: First in Category of Pet Inventions and Best Overall Inventor’s Journal;
•Leo Pino, inventor of the Fast Photos Camera: First in Category of Technology Inventions.
Levi Zimmermann, inventor of the Handy Dandy Paint Brush, was chosen to represent New York at the 2023 Raytheon Technologies Invention Convention U.S. Nationals where young inventors from around the U.S. will compete at The Henry Ford on June 7 through 9.
This is the second year in a row a student from Hilton School District was chosen to compete at nationals.
REACH is a needs-based program established in each of Hilton’s elementary schools to provide challenge and enrichment for third through sixth grade students with exceptional academic abilities.
