SUNY Brockport Professor Emeritus receives Lifetime Achievement Award

A SUNY Brockport Professor Emeritus was recently recognized for his significant contributions to the field of wetland science. Dr. Douglas Wilcox received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Wetland Scientists, the field’s premier professional organization.

Wilcox served as the Empire Innovation Professor of Wetland Science in Brockport’s Department of Environmental Science and Ecology for 12 years. He previously had spent 30 years with the U.S. Geological Survey-Great Lakes Science Center. Wilcox also spent 20 years as editor-in-chief of the scientific journal Wetlands.
Wilcox’s research on wetlands spanned the Great Lakes basin and focused on interactions of wetland plant communities and hydrology, including the roles of climate change, groundwater, and lake-level regulation. He and his staff at both the U.S. Geological Survey and SUNY Brockport also provided scientific support for restoration of Great Lakes Wetlands.
While at Brockport, Wilcox taught Wetland Ecology, Northern Wetlands, Restoration Ecology, and Scientific Technical Writing. He now lives in Asheville, North Carolina.
