C-C musicians shine at NYSSMA festival

Churchville-Chili Central School District’s high school music ensembles excelled at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Major Organization Festival, held at Rush-Henrietta High School this May. Both instrumental and vocal groups delivered exceptional performances and were recognized with top ratings.

On Tuesday, May 20, the Churchville-Chili High School Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble performed for adjudication by a panel of expert judges. The Symphonic Band, led by director Stephanie Bezon, received a Gold rating, and the Wind Ensemble, led by director Allison Chipman, earned a Level 6 Gold with Distinction, NYSSMA’s highest honor.

Two days later, on Thursday, May 22, the school’s Vocal Music Ensembles, led by Choir Director Erik Reinhart, took the stage. The Ninth Grade Treble Choir performed a level 4 multi-language set and was awarded a Silver rating. The Concert Choir presented a level 6 multi-language program and received a Gold with Distinction. In addition, the Treble Voices of the Concert Choir took on a second, highly challenging level 6 treble set and also earned a Gold with Distinction.

“The talent and hardwork of our incredible students and staff were on full display this week,” said Director of Fine Arts Jeff Smith. “There are no shortcuts in making music together at this high of a level. The achievement of our ensembles is a testament to their dedication to excellence each and every day. We couldn’t be more proud!”
