Four members of the Hilton Area Swim Team (HAST) participated in the Niagara District 2013 Long Course Championship in Ithaca in July. Competing against swimmers from swim clubs around Western New York, team members Adam Reitz, Meghan Reitz, Elizabeth Kidder and Bailey Klafehn each achieved personal best times in every one of their events.
Placing first in five of her events and third in two others earned Elizabeth Kidder the distinction of being recognized as the meet’s High Point winner in the 10 and under age group. Because of these results, Elizabeth was invited to join the Niagara District Zone Team and travel to Virginia in August for other competition. Zone Championships feature top regional swimmers at the Senior and Age Group levels who qualify for these meets within the four designated Zones: Eastern, Central, Southern, and Western. Bailey Klafehn took third in both the 50 and 100 meter freestyle events. Achieving a time of 00:28.28 seconds in the 50 earned her a chance to compete at the Speedo Eastern Zone Long Course championships in Buffalo in August.
