Jake Rada and Milton Griffin had the only two individual first place finishes as the Byron-Bergen girls and boys swimming teams opened their season with a loss to Royalton-Hartland at the Gillam-Grant swimming facility.
Rada finished first in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:07.57 and was second in the 200-yard freestyle. Griffin took first in the boys diving with 89.62 points and was part of the second place 200-yard medley relay team with Rada, Shawn Wadl and Brittany Merrell. Merrell was runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke and Wahl also was second in the 500-yard freestyle.
The Bees 200-yard freestyle relay team of Cory Utter, Jordan Gardner, Danny Weaver and Ryan Leo took first in 1:44.57. Jacob Hart and Leo finished two-three in the 100-yard breaststroke.
For the girls, Michaela Kenward finished second in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly, Cassie Hartman was second in the 50-yard freestyle, Ashley Montgomery and Celia Mercovich were two-three in the 100-yard backstroke and Sarah Clay runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Rachel Sands, Brittany Rada, Mercovich and Clay also took second.
