Kelley paces Bees’ opening win

Junior co-captain Abbie Kelley had a game-high 23 points to lead Byron-Bergen to a 50-12 victory over host Holley in the season opener for both teams.

The Bees built an 11-2 lead in the first quarter with Kelley scoring seven, Lindsay Lovett two and Shauna Adams adding a pair of free throws.

The lead extended to 18 points by halftime and 28 by the end of the third quarter as the Hawks managed just two field goals and a free throw over the 16 minutes.

Emily DuBois had four points and Tabby Smith three to go with Kelley’s six as the Bees cruised in the fourth quarter.

In addition to Kelley, Lovett had eight points, Adams seven with Abbie Noeth and DuBois each finishing with four points for Byron-Bergen.

“We brought back some good players from last year and we added some good players, so I am optimistic for the season,” said B-B head coach Rick Krzewinski, whose 2012-13 squad lost in the Class C1 semi-finals to Mynderse.

Holley co-captain Nicole Blackburn led the Hawks with five points, Jade Underwood had a team-high five rebounds with three points, Samantha Barniak had three steals and Bailey Flint added four rebounds.
