Cadets handle Saints on the court
Sophomore co-captain Cameron Graupman scored ten of her 15 points in the first quarter to help stake Hilton to a 15-point lead after the first quarter and they never looked back in a 56-40 girls basketball victory over Churchville-Chili.
The Cadets had their offense clicking, scoring 20 points in the first quarter and added 17 more in the second, with senior co-captain Amy Hasenauer scoring half of her team-high 16 points in the quarter to build the lead to 21 points at halftime.
The lead extended to 23 points early in the third before the Saints employed full-court pressure and rallied.
C-C outscored the Cadets 13-5 into the early stages of the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 14 points, but Hilton thwarted the comeback as Graupman hit on her drive to the net and co-captain Lauren Anten knocked down a three-pointer to put the game out of reach.
“We knew they would come out fighting (in the second half),” said Hilton head coach Jeff Eichas. “We struggled with the press in the third, but we settled down in the fourth.”
Hasenauer, who has committed to play basketball at Holy Cross next fall, had a double-double with 16 points; Graupman had 15 points and Anten 11 for Hilton.
For Churchville-Chili, senior Maggie Tabone tied for game-high honors with 16 points, Brooke Ennis had ten and Jessica Hyde added seven.
