Henshaw, Roe combine for eight points
Senior Brandon Henshaw netted a hat trick with one assist and junior Matt Roe added four assists as Brockport and Webster-Thomas skated to a 4-4 tie at Brockport’s Tuttle North Ice Arena.
After the Titans took a 1-0 lead in the first three minutes of the contest, Henshaw scored his first of the game at 5:47 when he was able to dig for a loose puck in the crease and push it across the goal-line to tie the game.
Thomas retook the lead later in the first, but the Blue Devils responded just 38 seconds later when sophomore Mitchell Henshaw put his wrister in off the post and in with assists from his brother Brendan and Roe.
The three combined on the go-ahead goal at 9:14 of the first when Brandon Henshaw knocked in his third rebound with assists from Mitchell and Roe.
After a scoreless second period, Thomas again tied the game at 2:38 of the third. Brockport again retook the lead at 7:15 as Brandon Henshaw converted a perfect two-on-one from Roe to complete his hat trick.
But Thomas tied the game with just 1:35 remaining in regulation and had the better scoring chances in the scoreless overtime, with Brockport goaltender Riley Emmerson making two in-close saves after the puck hit the crossbar midway through the extra session and then making a sprawling save at the final horn.
“We’re still finding out who we are as a team,” said Brockport head coach Greg Stahl. “Our top line on the Henshaw’s and Roe are very good together, but we just put them on the same line so they are learning each other.
“And Emmerson is just a sophomore, but having a good year and giving us a chance to win every game.”
Brockport plays Batavia Notre Dame Sunday, December 22 at 1 p.m. as part of the Frozen Frontier festivities in their final game of the 2013 portion of the schedule.
