Blue Devils follow Light

Junior Taylor Light scored a career-high 22 points and hauled in a personal best 18 rebounds to help Brockport double-up visiting Greece Olympia 66-33 in girls basketball.

Olympia held a 6-4 first quarter lead before the Blue Devils went on a 9-0 run with senior Casi Brew accounting for four of them.

The Blue Devils extended their lead to 10 points in the second quarter before allowing the Spartans to tie the game with an 11-1 spurt at the end of the first half.

“They kept changing defenses on us,” said Brockport head coach Kristy Sherman. “We were working on it the other day in practice and the girls did well, but tonight we didn’t react well at all.”

The results were better in the second half as the Blue Devils allowed just ten points over two quarters and found their offensive rhythm with a 20-2 run to open the half and scored 30 points on 17 trips in the third quarter alone.

Light scored 17 of her 22 points in the second half and added three blocks. Sophomore Rachel Benedict had 14 points with six rebounds and two assists, senior captain Allison Danielak had 12 points, Brionna Blocker seven points with eight rebounds and Amanda Wetzler added three assists.

Brockport evened their record at 4-4 with the victory.
