Cadets pin five Rangers
Dan Norris, Joe Fuino, Yianni Diakomihalis, Vincent DePrez and Hobie Strassner each won by fall while teammate Anthony DePrez began the match with a technical fall to lead Hilton to a 49-24 wrestling victory at Spencerport. Both teams were ranked among the top-15 in New York State with the Cadets fifth and the Rangers 14th.
Hilton senior Anthony DePrez led 11-0 after two periods and added a reverse and three back points in the third period to end his 160 lb. match with a 16-0 technical fall. Freshman Mike Spallina then limited his 170 lb. opponent to escape points in his 12-5 win.
The Rangers took a brief lead as senior Collin Pittman used three third-period takedowns to secure a 12-4 major decision at 182 lb. and Trent Egenlauf was awarded a forfeit at 195 lb.
Norris needed just :49 to in his man at 220 lb. and Fuino followed with a fall in 1:16 at 285 lb. to give the Cadets the lead for good.
After Spencerport’s Tyler Mitchell won via forfeit at 99 lb., Diakomihalis won in 31 seconds at 106 lb. and fellow freshman Austin Hertel used three takedowns to take an 8-0 decision at 113 lb.
Spencerport’s Brandon Barrett used three third-period escapes to eke out a 7-6 decision at 122 lb. to pull the Rangers to within 11 points, but John Kyte earned three points on a near-fall in the third period to come from behind in a 6-4 decision at 126 lb. Senior Kevin Westbrook followed with a 12-3 major decision at 132 lb. with three third-period takedowns.
After Tahj Eaddy won via technical fall (18-3) at 138 lb. for the Rangers, Hilton secured the match with Vincent DePrez winning by pin in 1:12 at 145 lb. and Strassner finishing the match with a pin in 1:19 at 152 lb.
