Blue Devils Hockey season ends
Ninth-seed Penfield scored three times in the second period to break up a scoreless game and added two more in the third in a 5-1 win over eighth-seed Brockport in a Section V Class B playoff pre-quarter final contest held at Tuttle North Ice Arena in Brockport.
The Blue Devils top line had several chances on tip-ins and redirects in the first period and Penfield hit a post, but the game was scoreless heading to the second period.
The Patriots scored three times in 5:58 on a pair of breakaways and one that went through the five-hole as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
Brockport’s third line got them back in the contest at 11:32 of the second as defenseman Chance Paul’s shot deflected off a Patriot player and right to senior Jeff Drexel, who swept in the rebound for his first goal of the season.
Penfield put any comeback hopes on hold with a goal just 1:39 into the third period and added an empty-net tally in the final minute to advance.
“We put ourselves in a bad position and we were playing against a good team with 13 seniors,” said Brockport head coach Greg Stahl. “We adjusted in the third period to take away the cross ice pass and we almost scored off of it, but things didn’t go our way.”
