Brockport boys advance in basketball
The Blue Devils used 13-0 and 13-2 first half runs to build a 37-16 halftime lead and senior Nathaniel Caleb led the offense with 12 points to lead Brockport to a 78-40 in a Section V First Round Class AA boys basketball playoff game.
Caleb scored seven points in the Blue Devils late first half 13-2 run while Jake Burgio and Josh Michels combined for 12 of the team’s 22 third quarter points to help them build a 33 point lead after 24 minutes.
Both benches emptied in the fourth quarter as every player suited up for Brockport scored at least one point in the win, including Kyle Luce hitting a trey and free throw in the final minutes.
“Our game plan was to get the ball to the basket and not settle for three-pointers; attack on every possession,” said Brockport head coach Mark Schaller. “We wanted to get the ball into the paint or to the post and for the most part we did that.”
In addition to Caleb’s 12 points, Michels and Burgio each finished with 11 and Donald Cook had eight while Luce and Nico Langelotti each added seven for the Blue Devils.
Spencerport’s Zekiah Owens led his team with nine points and five rebounds, Maleik Owens had seven points in his final high school game and Isiah Ingram added four steals.
Brockport advanced to play top seed and 17-1 Greece Athena in the pre-quarterfinals.
