Lane, Ritzenhaler, Hueber lead Rangers

Junior right-hander Jake Lane allowed just one run and three hits to earn his first varsity win while Jim Ritzenhaler and Joey Hueber combined for five RBIs to lead Spencerport to a 15-3 victory over Greece Olympia at Harold “Chick” Schum Field.

Trailing 1-0, the Rangers plated two runs in their half of the first inning. Brandon Corey led off with an infield single and scored on an RBI double by shortstop Brett Renzi, who later scored on an RBI groundout by Antony Macera.

They tacked on another run in the second as Trent Egenlauf reached on a fielder’s choice, advanced to third on a single to right center by Lane and scored on an infield ground out by Hueber.

The Rangers took control of the game in the third as they scored four more runs. Brian Gerringer drove in Donald Eldridge on an infield single and later scored on a wild pitch. Gerringer and Travis Karcher, who reached on an error, were sent home on a single to center field off the bat of Egenlauf.

Lane and Hueber drove in runs in the fifth inning to make it 9-1 before the Rangers blew the game open in the sixth as they sent 12 men to the plate and plated six runs.

The big hit of the half inning was a bases-clearing double by Ritzenhaler that glanced off the center fielder’s glove. Brandon Case, Eldridge and Robert Winter also had RBI hits in the inning.

Lane tossed five and one-third innings and allowed just one run and three hits while striking out four for the Rangers. Eldridge finished up on the mound and struck out four in his inning and two-thirds of work for the 4-8 Rangers.
