Notre Dame junior recognized by MEC
Four Notre Dame Falcons earned All Mountain East Conference honors for baseball.
The Falcons had one of the best pitching staffs in the entire conference, and at the top of the rotation, is junior Jake Welch (Spencerport 2011) who earned first team All MEC accolades. Welch had a 2.79 ERA on the season, and went 8-3 over 12 starts. Welch led the Falcons in strikeouts with 80 on the season, second most in the MEC, and opposing teams hit just .192 against him. Welch tallied seven complete games on the year, second most in the MEC circuit, and a mark that ranked 13th nationally. From March 15 through April 5, a span of four starts, he allowed just two runs, while striking out 18. He earned MEC pitcher of the week honors on March 24.
The Notre Dame Falcons finished 2nd place in the MEC conference championship in Beckley, West Virginia where Welch received his Conference award. Welch will continue playing this summer for the Albany Dutchman in the Perfect Game League.
