Seniors lead Saints to opening win
Churchville-Chili’s five girls volleyball seniors combined for 32 kills to pace the Saints to a three-game sweep over visiting Brighton in the season lid-lifter.
Danielle Cox registered five of her team-high 13 kills in the opening game, which featured 12 tie scores, in a 25-23 win.
Viviana Lisboa had one block and two kills during a four-point sequence and setter Stefanie Stefanovski had one kill and one ace on consecutive points in the relatively easy 25-15 game two victory.
In the third game, the Saints built an early five point lead before Brighton stormed back to tie 13-13. Neither team led by more than three points the rest of the way and the Barons were serving game point before Stefanovski dinked a kill shot to tie the game at 24-all and, after a long hit out of bounds by Brighton, Sarah Huzyk ended the sweep with an ace.
In addition to her 13 kills, Cox led the Saints with 13 digs. Stefanovski had five kills with her 30 assists, Allison Vannest had seven kills and nine digs and classmate Lisboa finished with six kills. Junior libero Huzyk added ten digs and chipped in three aces for the 1-0 Saints.
