Brault in final run for C-C
Churchville-Chili received two singles victories and two doubles to squeak by host Brockport 4-3 in girls varsity tennis.
Second singles Laura Freeman swept through her match relatively easier in a 6-3, 6-0 win and Rachel Kuhn won her fourth singles match by forfeit.
The second doubles team of Danielle Pusateri and Katarina Ost were victorious 6-0, 6-3 and third doubles junior Jodie Reese and Karensa Reber swept their match 6-0, 6-0.
For Brockport, top singles player Alyx Hullfish battled for two hours before breaking serve in the final game in her 6-1, 1-6, 7-5 win. Junior Sydney Welch won 6-1, 6-1 at third singles and the top doubles pair of Taylor Hullfish and Charity Hinman – both sophomores – won 6-3, 6-1.
In spite of her close loss at first singles, Churchville-Chili senior Alyssa Brault will close her high school career with a lock on the Saints record book.
In her fifth season playing in the team’s top singles slot, she entered this season with an 82-20 record; the top girl’s tennis player in school history. The five-year captain and MVP has been on varsity since seventh grade and was First Team All-County in ninth, tenth and eleventh grade, named All-Greater Rochester in ninth and tenth when she also became the only girl’s player in Saints history to win a Class A individual Section V championship – twice.
With her as a key component, the team also won the first Division 3 team titles in school history in each of the past two seasons.
Churchville-Chili is scheduled to play their final home match September 25 against Penfield with Sectionals and the state tournament in early October.
